designing and finishing your dream kitchen

Making selections for your new double storey home design is one of the most exciting parts of the building process, probably only second to the day you receive your keys and step over the threshold. And while this might be exciting, it can daunting too. Deciding the ultimate look and feel of your new family home can be a high-pressure task. This is why apg homes has a Prestart process specifically designed to make this part of your new build journey as stress-free and fulfilling as possible.

Planning early

At apg homes we draw on years' of experience in the building industry to supply you with the most relevant finishing material options. At the very outset of your new home building project, we will supply you with all of the information needed to choose the colours and finishes your dream kitchen will have when complete. This includes a tile selection sheet and other relevant information.

Instead of waiting for your pre-start consultation, we recommend starting early by reading through the material we provide. This will allow you and and any other decision makers in the process plenty of time to reach agreement around colours and other design aspects -  this will certainly help avoid stressful situations further down the line.

Planning tips

Some people are visual learners and need to see things before they can truly visualise them. It could be a very good idea to keep a visual journal of things that you like that you see in everyday life - inspiration can come from the most unexpected places!

Another great place to source ideas is from visiting one of our display homes in Perth. That way you can see exactly what certain finishes and fittings look like together.

Talking to our preferred suppliers

In our Prestart information we will give you the details of our preferred kitchen tile and accessory specialists. Go and talk to them armed with your ideas, Prestart kit and a thirst for knowledge. They'll be able to show you samples of the various options available, as well as some options for upgrades.

At this point you can make a firm decision around which tiles, cupboard fronting and laminate or stone benchtop colours you want for your new home. If you're planning on designing your rooms or entire home with a theme in mind, it will be easier when you can see and feel the materials, and how they work side-by-side.

Firming up with a Prestart Consultant

Now, you may have a very good idea of what you would like going forward, but it's always useful to have a second (professional) opinion. When you meet with one of our Prestart Consultants, they will not only help you to enter your final choices, but they will be able to help you decide between options if you are unsure.

Before your Prestart meeting, you should have read through the addendum to your building contract and the apg Selection Booklet very carefully. This way you will know exactly what is going on at all times and will be able to extract the most value from this meeting possible.

Other considerations you should have made at this point will be electrical, gas and wiring options - all of which are detailed in your pre-start information pack.

Seeing the results

While you will be able to enjoy watching your home being built from once stage to the next, the ultimate in satisfaction could be seeing how your chosen features complete your dream kitchen.

Well, maybe not quite complete. Now you have a very good excuse to update your cooking accoutrements with the latest and the best for your brand new kitchen.
