Upside-down houses like the New Horizon make a lot of sense for blocks with ocean views, as with this elevated APG display home in Iluka.
The kitchen and main living areas are upstairs, and open on to a balcony which reaches across the entire front of the home - or the design can be easily adapted to suit rear views.
Also upstairs is the main bedroom suite, which provides good separation from the children's section of the home downstairs.
Entry to the home is via double glass doors, which open on to a hall with a staircase at the far end.
On the right is an open study which is big enough to be used as a bedroom or guest room.
It has a double sliding glass door to the veranda under the balcony.
Also downstairs are two children's bedrooms, each with double built-in robes.
There is also a big activity room with a sliding glass door to the outside.
The bathroom has a frameless glass pivot door and a bath under the window. There is a separate toilet, a triple linen cupboard and a laundry.
Upstairs, the main bedroom has a double sliding glass door to the bedroom and his-and-her walk-in robes with shelving and drawers.
The ensuite has a double vanity and mirrors, lots of cupboards and a big corner shower. A jumbo-sized powder room has a door to the ensuite and to the living area.
Adjoining the dining and living areas is the kitchen, which has an island bench breakfast bar and a double under-mount sink.
There are stone benchtops, Westinghouse stainless-steel appliances including a wide underbench oven, a hotplate with wok burner and an exhaust hood.
